Postcards from the Edge Visual Art Programme

Following the success of our first 'Postcards From the Edge' programme, we are delighted to launch a second group beginning Tuesday 16th June.

The programme will enable you to learn writing skills, get visually creative and explore our past through examining Linen Hall Library's political and postcard collection.

Featuring sessions from award-winning writer Jan Carson and Professor Bill Rolston, the programme will help to recall memories and experiences of life throughout Ulster whilst inspiring you to design your own visual art postcard. The postcard and stories will go on to form an online exhibition and potentially a 'realtime' exhibition in the Linen Hall Library later in the year.

How will it work?

-- Linen Hall Librarian Samantha McCombe, will host a seminar on the Library's political collection, including its extensive postcard collection.

-- Acclaimed Professor of Sociology Bill Rolston, who captured the history and development of mural art in Northern Ireland from the 1980s to 2000s, will host an online seminar discussing this work and its context to our history and culture.

-- Take part in an online creative writing session with award-winning writer Jan Carson to create and form your own written history to accompany your visual story.

-- Award-winning artist and project facilitator Lesley Cherry will host an online art talk about post-conflict art and demonstrate different ways of creating personal and historic stories through art, with materials found at home.

-- You will receive and share blank postcards with family and friends encouraging them to create their own Postcards from the Edge

-- You will be inspired to share your images, thoughts and questions through our online community hosted in Slack

This programme is FREE and open to anyone based in Northern Ireland or border counties. Numbers are limited, sign up early to avoid disappointment.
