The Women in the Archives team in PRONI wrapped up the Summer with a week-long Archives Uncovered programme which offered 20 individuals aged 20-60 an inside view of the work done by the official archive for Northern Ireland.
Each day participants engaged with a different aspect of PRONI’s work, including preservation, conservation, cataloguing, accessibility and public engagement. These experiences enabled participants to consider the past, present and future of archives.
They took part in a behind the scenes tour of the building and explored how PRONI looks after private, public and historic collections. Participants also got hands-on experience with conservation and document preservation and gained research and archive skills.
On the last day, they took part in a creative workshop session with facilitators from PRONI and the Nerve Centre where they left their thoughts on our Women in the Archives scrapbook and used vinyl printing technology to create customised tote bags with quotes about their experience.
Check out what participants have to say about their experience of Archives Uncovered.
